Under general supervision of the Administrative Director / MSO and the Medical Director, the Administrative Nurse has primary administrative responsibility for one or more ambulatory practices.

S/he oversees clinical operations of Pediatric Primary Care clinic at Mount Zion and assists with Pediatric Primary Care clinic at Mission Bay. S/he also manages special clinics within these areas (Flu Clinic, Synagis, etc). S/he works with providers and staff to develop, monitor, and continuously improve systems pertaining to all aspects of patient care.

S/he supervises all clinical staff including RNs, LVNs, and Hospital Assistants, facilitating positive interactions with providers, patients, and other departments. S/he is responsible for assuring licensure, competency and skills training and documentation for all clinical staff.  In the supervisory role, s/he works to establish and promote teamwork among practice staff.

The Administrative Nurse Manager occasionally steps in to provide direct care to a specified patient population, facilitating continuity of care and patient satisfaction. Responsibilities may include occasional staffing of advice center, acute care, or primary care. S/he consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor. The Administrative Nurse shall comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

The Administrative Nurse Manager will provide clinical nurse oversight for Pediatric Primary Care. S/he will serve as a liaison to Quality Management and Performance Improvement to introduce new quality guidelines, to meet new standards and to measure existing performance. S/he is liaison with Ambulatory Services Patient Care Services. S/he is responsible for leading site surveys including lab reviews, healthplan reviews, and JCAHO surveys. Responsibilities also include overseeing ordering of supplies and medications for the practices.

She/he will develop and maintain relationships with other inpatient and outpatient services to assure a smooth continuum of care for Pediatric patients, to support teaching objectives and to provide overall administrative coordination for Pediatric related services. S/he will be specifically responsible for coordinating and communicating with Emergency Room staff and clinicians on a regular basis to communicate Pediatric related procedures and policies. S/he assumes primary responsibility for point of care testing, infectious control, and clinical safety measures and training.

The Administrative Nurse will be responsible for evaluating and implementing new clinical and operational protocols and for maintaining existing protocols and will support the development of new primary or specialty care based clinics and services.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Required Qualifictations:

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Registered Nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and completion from a college or university
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing
  • Proven leadership experience in a clinical practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and self-development
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to this position
  • Trained in UCSF IDX Patient Scheduling and Registration System. Power User a Plus
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required
