There's probably one way you're used to telling your career story, and it ends with your current research project.

When you're exploring careers, you experiment with new working identities, and that means trying out different ways of telling your story (in networking conversations; on LinkedIn; in interviews; and just in your own mind). This interactive workshop will use principles of design thinking to help you open your mind to telling your story in new ways, to suit new possible futures. You'll also hear examples of UCSF alumni's career-stories-in-progress.

This session is offered by instructors from the MIND Program.

Learning outcomes

This session is intended for advanced graduate students and postdocs who are exploring multiple career paths. After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe situations when it might be necessary to tell your career story
  2. Identify the skills, interests, and values that you want to highlight in telling your story
  3. Adjust your career story to incorporate your future career goals (even if you aren't certain what they are)
  4. Retell your career story different ways, for different audiences
