Overview
Salary negotiation is a situation that all UCSF students and postdocs are likely to encounter during their career. It’s also the part of the job application process that they usually feel the least comfortable about. At OCPD, we want students and postdocs to feel satisfied in the positions they accept, and the negotiation process is key in creating that satisfaction.
Join us for a 90-minute workshop (with lunch!) to ease some of your discomfort around negotiating so you can use this situation to help you feel more satisfied with your future job choices. In this session, you will develop your negotiation strategy and practice it. We’ll talk about what to expect from the process and what you can (and should) ask for. Then we’ll talk about strategies for actually asking for what you want and how to work with the variety of responses you may get during a negotiation conversation.
Who should attend: Students and postdocs who want to build some confidence around their negotiation skills. You are welcome whether or not you have experience negotiating, and whether or not you anticipate doing a negotiation soon!
Speaker
Ray Care, PhD - Program Director, Office of Career and Professional Development
Format
During this in-person workshop, we will be moving between short lecture sections and activities done both on your own and with other attendees. You will develop a strategy and practice it. We will address questions collected anonymously during the session. No portion will be recorded.
