We recently shared a resource on managing change developed as part of OCPD’s third collaborative NSF Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant with the City College of San Francisco (CCSF). This work focuses on supporting community college students in the biomedical sciences as they build essential workplace navigation skills while preparing to enter the scientific workforce.
One outcome of this collaboration is an Inside Higher Ed article introducing the Straight A’s for Change Management framework. Built around four steps — acknowledge and accept, assess, address, and appreciate achievement — the framework helps students and postdocs navigate uncertainty with clarity and integrity. The article argues that universities should have important role to play in explicitly teaching these professional skills and providing learners with the tools needed to lead in complex, evolving environments.
These skills are critical not only for long-term leadership development, but also for managing the realities of today’s professional landscape, including rapid and ongoing change in funding, job markets, and global conditions.
The article, “Managing Change Is a Skill. Here’s How to Teach It,” was selected as one of Academica’s Top Ten articles in November 2025, highlighting its relevance across institutions and career stages in the biomedical sciences.
