Pilot: teaching student pharmacists how to use social media skillfully as a professional

Assistant Director Anna Reeves is partnering with the Dr. Tram Cat (the Associate Dean of Student Affairs) in the School of Pharmacy to pilot a new workshop focused on helping students develop, protect, and navigate their professional identity and professional brand on social media this winter quarter.

The session is designed to move beyond simple “do’s and don’ts” and instead provide participants with a practical framework for using social media skillfully.

Social media is now a routine part of professional life in science and health care. For students and postdoctoral scholars, platforms like LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and others can support networking, visibility, and career exploration. At the same time, missteps online can have unintended and lasting consequences for professional reputation and career opportunities.  Our goal it for every UCSF learner to develop the professional skills they need to lead, communicate, and represent themselves effectively in today’s scientific and health care workforce.
