Course Description
In this course, participants who have completed the Introduction to Pedagogy course will have the opportunity to apply the “scientific teaching” principles to develop a teaching demonstration and begin creating a teaching portfolio (including a syllabus and assessments aligned with learning outcomes) on a topic of their choice.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Develop or update a lesson using the backward design approach
- Develop learning outcomes and corresponding assessments using Bloom’s Taxonomy
- Develop lesson plans to allow students to construct their knowledge from evidence
- Develop and evaluate a teaching demonstration and the accompanying assessment
- Use educational strategies that allow students to 1) develop higher cognitive skills, such as analyzing, evaluating and synthesizing evidence, 2) work collaboratively across disciplines and backgrounds, 3) support the needs of diverse students and types of learners in their class.
