Empathy is important in almost every job that I know of. Empathy allows me to relate to coworkers who may be struggling or may not meet a deadline due to a personal issue.
Communication as a Computational Scientist in Data Science
Communication is essential to what I do. The work I do can be quite technical, in terms of programming, but also in terms of the science involved. It is essential that I communicate this work differently to different people, i.e my manager, the sales and marketing teams, the laboratory directors or the clinical and patient advocacy teams. All of these groups have different priorities and expertise, but it is critical that all of them understand the work I am doing.

Teamwork as a Computational Scientist in Data Science
We are currently working on a project that is high priority and there are ~20 of us working on different pieces of the project. It is critical that I know if something upstream or downstream of me changes so I can understand how it affects my work or those who rely on my work. We communicate in lots of different ways, including recurring meetings, one-off meetings and slack messaging.
