Mentoring Opportunities

While there are many formal and informal ways to gain mentoring experience, read below to learn about a few opportunities you can take advantage of while at UCSF.

Science and Health Education Partnership (SEP)
SEP’s High School Intern Program supports San Francisco public high school students as they conduct research in UCSF labs for 8 weeks in the summer. Each intern completes a short-term research project under the guidance of a scientist mentor. Learn more at the information sessions they host in the spring.

Summer Research Training Program
UCSF hosts a cohort of undergraduate students in the health sciences each summer. Participants in the program take part in seminars, lectures, and social events, creating a cohesive and supportive community. Visit the main page to learn more and for contact information to get involved.

UCSF-CCSF Inclusive Mentoring Fellows program for Bioscience Researchers
Mentor an intern from City College of San Francisco's Biotechnology Program and participate in a supported learning experience to become an inclusive mentor. Fellows will mentor a CCSF intern who is training for a career as a laboratory assistant or technician, or who is planning to pursue a degree in the biosciences.

Minds Matter Bay Area (MMBay)
MMBay is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that helps driven yet underserved students break the cycle of poverty by graduating from the nation's top universities. Learn more about opportunities to participate as a board member, mentor, or instructor (in San Francisco) or to join their site leadership team (in Oakland and San Jose).
