Teaching at USF
UCSF-USF partnership
OCPD and University of San Francisco (USF) partner to offer UCSF students and postdoctoral scholars opportunities in the life sciences to teach undergraduate lab and lecture courses at USF in the departments of Biology, Physics/Astronomy, Mathematics and Statistics, and Chemistry.
Overview
These teaching positions are paid adjunct faculty positions which often include a weekly instructor's meeting.
The majority of part-time teaching positions are for laboratory sections associated with large intro classes taught by full-time USF faculty.
There are occasional opportunities for teaching full courses (either lecture only, or lecture/lab) at both lower- and upper-division levels.
Applying
When: Applications take place twice a year in the winter (for the spring semester) and the summer (for the fall semester) and positions are advertised on Handshake. Watch our emails to see announcements when these opportunities are posted.
To apply: Follow the instructions provided in the announcement below.
For Fall 2026 there are also positions open in Physics:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of San Francisco anticipates teaching opportunities for Fall 2026. Courses include lab sections for first-year undergraduate courses in basic mechanics (algebra-based, for pre-medical students), and electromagnetism (calculus-based, for engineering students). The latter option incorporates project-based learning and will cover some basic circuits. Interested parties should contact Brandon Brown, chair of Physics and Astronomy: [email protected].

Compensation
As an instructor at USF, you will be hired as part-time (adjunct) faculty with no benefits. Pay for a lab instructor position is estimated at $4202 for the semester. Pay for a lecturer position is estimated at $7520 for the semester. If you would like to teach a lab course in lieu of your UCSF teaching assistant requirement, UCSF requires that you teach as a volunteer.
