Organizational Strategy

The Office of Career & Professional Development's organizational strategy included building a strategic plan, an organizational management model, an annual planning structure, and cultivating a healthy work environment. Developing an organizational strategy has been a priority, with the intention of building a highly productive, highly functional organization that effectively serves students and postdoctoral scholars.

The office's management model has five focal points: Staff, SPIR (Services, Programs, Initiatives and Resources), Money, Infastracture, RAD (Research, Assessment & Data). The OCPD uses key questions, and regular strategic meetings to assess the functionality of the office, and to identify and address barriers to productivity in each area.

Cultivating a Healthy Work Environment

The OCPD staff counsel trainees that they deserve to work in healthy environments, encourage them to seek out those environments when seeking further training or employment, and as future leaders, insist that they take an active role in fostering healthy environments. The OCPD staff do not believe that they can authentically take that position, unless they themselves are willing to do the work to actively create a high functioning, supportive environment.
