Update to Postdoctoral Service Eligibility (Effective July 1)

There will be a change in the Office of Career and Professional Development services for postdoctoral scholars, effective July 1.

At UCSF, individuals are formally classified as postdoctoral scholars under one of five postdoctoral appointment title codes for a maximum of five years. Historically, OCPD has continued to serve some individuals beyond this five-year window. Beginning July 1, our services for postdoctoral scholars will align with these institutional classifications.

What this means:

  • Starting July 1, services will be available to current students, individuals who are currently within one of the five official postdoctoral appointment categories, and alumni for up to 6 months after leaving the student/postdoc status.

  • Individuals in staff or other trainee classifications (for example, research specialist roles) will no longer be eligible to access appointments or programs beyond the 6 month alumni eligibility window.

We are sharing this update now to provide advance notice and allow time for planning within the UCSF community. If you anticipate that this change may affect you, we encourage you to connect with us before July 1 so we can help you make the most of available resources and, where appropriate, point you toward other campus offices that support staff career development.

CPD remains deeply committed to supporting postdoctoral scholars during their training period and to providing clear, transparent guidance about available services.
