Professional Goals

My professional goals as a student were to further the pharmacy profession and close barriers to health care access. As a first-generation college student, it was important for me to advocate for myself as well as for my community and future patients who may be from similarly socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Now, as a pharmacist, I provide care for diverse populations, expand pharmacy services, ensure access to medications, and optimize medication regimens for patients during admission, discharge, and clinic follow-ups.

What Do You Know Now That You Wished You Knew as a P1 student?

I wish I knew about the importance of maintaining a database of resources (clinical or professional) in an accessible location. As a student, there are many resources that are shared with us by campus organizations or professors that would be helpful to easily reference or share with future mentees.

How Did the CPD Health Team Support Your Career Goals and/or Next Steps?

During pharmacy school, I worked as a career peer advisor at the UCSF Office of Career and Professional Development. After receiving training, I advised students from all professional schools on their CVs and letters of intent. One of my favorite projects was publishing a monthly newsletter for pharmacy students, The Monthly Prescription. This required me to be observant of the needs and concerns of students to provide them with resources and perspectives from faculty on topics such as finding passions, communicating with preceptors, conducting informational interviews, and more! I am thankful for these opportunities for building my skills in teaching, precepting, and mentoring.

During my first year, the CPD office presented a valuable resume-writing workshop to my class. Also, during my last year, I reviewed CPD's list of sample interview questions and received one-on-one interview practice with a counselor.
